Soil Thornton

BIO:

Soil Thornton (formerly known as Torey Thornton) is a former professional FGFS rider originally from Macon, Georgia. They later moved operations to New York City and became a staple and icon in the New York scene and the entirety of the fixed gear world.

Soil’s first major appearance would be with the Council of Doom crew and full length video released in 2009. At the time they were widely known as Hfwido. While the Council of Doom crew was located in Orange County, CA, Soil was the outlier and maintained a connection with Wolfgang to land themselves a part in the DVD. On a Windsor The Hour frame, Soil would huck themself off stairsets and landed some relatively technical flatground tricks for the time.

After Council of Doom, Soil began to create a cult fanbase from not just their creative riding, but from off the bike weirdness and antics. To further the antics of not just themselves, but to showcase the other people around them, Soil created WRAHW in 2009, a brand and collective encompassing all the gritty weirdness their crew had to offer. Soil was recognized for both talent and entertainment and was put on the GOrilla team.

Velocity reps were at the Virginia premiere of Death Pedal 2, which Soil had a section in, and landed them a spot on the team. A year later, Soil was put on the Grime team as well in 2010. While Grime produced a 29″ prototype frame specifically for Soil, the frame never came to production and they would end up on Breakbrake17 riding the Serpent frame.

Soil’s riding around 2010 really began to take shape and really separated themselves from the other pro riders at the time. While other riders were focused on peg tricks, barspins, and rotations, Soil always sought out weird setups and big drops.

In 2012, Soil released their final web edit for Breakbrake17 and silently stepped away from the scene, disbanding WRAHW and going full time with their successful art career. Soil’s riding and everything created through WRAHW are still held as the gold standard for web edits and antics. The domain for wrahw.com is still online, which means Soil is still paying for it to be up.
