Joe Mckeag

BIO:

Joe Mckeag is a Long Beach native former pro FGFS rider. From 2011-2015, he remained one of the most popular riders in the world. He was always a threat at competitions, his video sections were always legendary, and his effortless park riding was unheard of for FGFS bikes.

Some of the first content that we would see from Joe came from the LA Brakeless crew videos. These videos, good Am competition results, and landing a cover photo in Fast Pace magazine helped get him exposure, and eventually he found himself on the Volume Bike Co. team.

When Joe started appearing as a regular in Wolf Drawn content and Fixie Factory antics, it pushed Joe to the next level in terms of recognizability. Not only was his riding being noticed now, but his personality was now being broadcasted to the FGFS world. He had even more eyes on him than before and it opened up even more opportunities. All this along with an impressive 10th place finish at the 2011 Red Bull Ride + Style competiton was enough to have the FGFS world in the palm of his hands. Joe was able to change frame sponsors at will, going from Volume to Unknown, Unknown to LDG, and LDG to Bombtrack throughout his career.

Joe had good reason to leave Volume though, as Unknown offered him a signature 700c frame which would be known as the 24/7. The frame was shaping up to be the end all perfect 700c frame with mass hype forming looking forward to it’s release. When the time came for production though, Unknown had a mishap with the batch of frames and ruined the geometry, welding all of the rear bridges too low and making for no tire clearance. Joe then left Unknown for the more promising LDG.

Joe’s style was characterized by perfection. He was one of the only riders at the time doing clicked tabletops, huge hops, and airing way above coping on quarter pipes. When he switched to 26″ wheels upon joining the LDG team, his stylish riding only improved and he would go on to release some of the most impressive video sections to this day, such as his 2012 Wolf Drawn section and his part in the Stay Strapped DVD.

While Joe’s last major video section would be his Stay Strapped part in 2014, Joe would make appearances here and there in misc. web content. He currently still has a bike and will post Instagram clips rarely.
